Infanta Sofia is about to turn 17. On April 29, the youngest royal will blow out the candles at UWC Atlantic College in Wales, her current residence and the place where she is continuing her higher education. In a year, Princess Leonor’s sister will come of age and, little by little, takes on importance in institutional life.

Today, National Heritage announced that Infanta Sofía would sponsor certain photography prizes on its behalf and that it would itself be responsible for awarding the prizes. For the first time alone, the youngest daughter of Don Felipe and Doña Sofía will chair a solo event. The name of this cultural initiative is Objectif Patrimoine and it is a newly created photography competition, coinciding with Monuments and Sites Day, celebrated precisely this April 18. According to the competition rules, Infanta Sofia will award the prizes “as the youngest member of the Royal House, to which the institution is so closely linked.”

For the first time in history, Princess Leonor’s sister will chair an official event alone in the coming months. Although no date has yet been set for the gala, we will still have to wait a little until Infanta Sofia’s big day. As indicated in the competition regulations, the deadline for submitting works ends on September 30, and in October this will be the time when the jury deliberates and decides on the winners. There the date of the event will be announced.

The youngest daughter of Don Felipe VI and Doña Letizia always remained in the background in all the institutional events in which he participated, accompanying the kings of Spain and his sister, the Princess of Asturias, in the most important moments of his life, like the day Doña Leonor took the oath on the Constitution at the Congress of Deputies, October 31, 2023, the day she turned 18.

We just have to wait a few months to witness the first solo act of Infanta Sofía. Right now, the youngest royal is facing the home stretch of the final term of first year of high school in Wales.
