The president of the Junta de Castilla y León, Alfonso Fernández Mañueco, received today at the headquarters of the Presidency of the Autonomous Government the general head of the San Marcial Division of the Army, Juan Carlos González Díez, before his incorporation as director of the Zarzuela Planning and Coordination Office. González Díez thus continues his farewell tour, after meeting last Wednesday with the government delegate, Nicanor Sen.

General González Díaz, who took command of the army in Castile and León in December 2020, will move to Madrid to assume the functions of the Planning and Coordination Cabinet of the Zarzuela, position in which he replaces the Brigadier General of Emilio Tomé de la Vega. Infantry.

During these three years, he led the more than 7,000 soldiers that make up the San Marcial Division, including approximately 600 officers, approximately 1,500 non-commissioned officers and more than 5,000 professional soldiers.

Units of the San Marcial Division very frequently participate in training activities with the Navy and Air Force, as well as in exercises and bilateral activities with the armies of allied countries to ensure a high degree of interoperability on the international scene.

This high availability of its units, as well as its high specialization, make the San Marcial Division the most visible exponent of the new organization of the Armed Force to adapt to the new strategic context.

González Díez exercises command from the General Staff, based in the facilities of the Diego Porcelos Barracks (Burgos), where more than 200 civilians and military personnel serve.

Since January 1, 2021, the San Marcial Division has brought together under a single command the Almogávares VI Parachute Brigade (Bripac), the Roncesvalles Mountain Troops Command (MTM), the Special Operations Command (MOE), the Airmobile Forces of the Army (Famet) and the Information Operations Regiment No. 1.
