After the experiment which began in December 2023, the anti-degradation project of Palazzo Marino is entering its second phase. On Wednesday March 27, a training day was organized for around thirty operators who will be present in certain districts of the city to fight against damage to public spaces and reduce phenomena critical to the dignity of people.

The project, thanks to the collaboration of the Prefecture, is also financed with funds from the Ministry of the Interior and aims to combat and prevent the degradation and incorrect use of public spaces such as sidewalks, streets, squares , gardens and green spaces.

After the experiment started in December 2023, the anti-degradation project of the Municipality of Milan enters the second phase. “We want to improve the quality, safety and usability of public spaces – says Marco Granelli, security advisor – and at the same time contain the factors of marginalization of homeless people or behaviors linked to social precariousness with the collaboration of third sector subjects who organize and plan their presence in neighborhoods and areas at risk for urban security, in close contact with our offices and in coordination with the local police. The project starts in April and is planned and funded over four months. Thanks to the resources requested from the Ministry of the Interior last year and obtained in recent days, we will soon publish a call for tenders so that it can experience a new phase also with other organizations during the second half of 2024 and 2025. We believe that these actions must have continuity and constitute a constant contribution to the security of the city, in addition to the actions of law enforcement and local police.”

In December the City Angels collaborated, among the entities involved in the project now include the Volunteer and Civil Protection Group, the National Association of State Police, the National Association of Carabinieri – Milan Section, the the Milano Ugolini volunteer unit and the Ark project.

There are three urban areas affected by the service: the area adjacent to the central station, via Benedetto Marcello and adjacent streets, the area of ​​Corso Concordia between Piazza Risorgimento and Piazza del Tricolore.

Street staff, professional and voluntary, will intervene in situations of bivouac, begging, harassment, abandonment of waste, alcohol abuse, to prevent these behaviors and direct people in difficulty towards the service system. social and socio-health existing and represent for citizens a point of reference and a sign of the presence of the institutions, as well as informing the local police and police forces in critical situations.
